Cecil Spooner Blaney 1875-1953 was born in Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa, and died aged 78 in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles County, California. She is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Her famous siblings were Edna Mae Spooner 1873-1953 and F.E. Spooner, Franklin E. Spooner 1860-1943.

Very well known in her day, popular and controversial, Cecil Spooner was an actress on vaudeville, play director and film directer, as well as a filmwriter. She also was a suffragette. She was born in NY in 1875, and died in Sherman Oaks, California at age 78 in 1953.

Cecil was said to be very athletic, charming and a force to reckon with. She opened her own 1,000 seat theater in 1910 at age of 22 at 163rd Street in Manhattan, named the Cecil Spooner Theatre. Her husband and agent Charles E. Blaney was involved, as well as her mother, Mary Gibbs Spooner, her actress sister, Edna May Spooner and actor brother F.E. Spooner.

One of Cecil Spooner's stage productions called “House of Bondage” actually got her arrested for indecency. Many prominent women came to her rescue came to her and the notoriety for Ms Spooner didn't hurt! Cecil spooner went on to films, a great and rare piece of women's history that we are proud to own!
