Bio: Howard Scott was a prolific illustrator, painter and advertising poster art designer, active in New York. He is known for his realistic artwork, WWII posters and and American graphic work for the Saturday Evening Post. He was a member of the acclaimed Society of Illustrators. Scott served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and produced patriotic posters for the U.S. Government War Information Service, as well as many billboards and high level American product art such. he is known to have worked with Raymond Loewy to improve billboard art and appeal.
This is an original silk banner signed HOWARD SCOTT in upper left, see photos. It advertises Knickerbocker Beer, owned by the famous Jake Ruppert, a U.S. Representative from NY, brewery owner, and once owner the New York Yankees.
The banner has a Revolutionary war Colonial theme with a 1700's patriot in his Paul Revere hat raising a frothy glass tankard of beer. Text reads: "Knickerbocker, The Beer Drinker's Beer." The banner measures 20 x 11.5 inches, has a bright yellow cord and fringe. It has the original wooden dowel and endpin assembly. Condition is really nice with some mild discoloration, and tiny pinholes, overall very clean, vibrant and beautfiful. A great piece of brewery history, breweriana. We only have this one.
