Here for Scribners Magazine we see the advertising poster to promote Gibson`s “A New York Day” along with other articles found in June’s Scribner’s Magazine. These posters were printed to promote the magazine. Scribner`s Magazine was first published in January 1887. At its peak its circulation topped 215,000 and it ceased publication in May 1939. The magazine was noted for its interesting images, articles, stories and later color images by artists and illustrators of the times.

Charles Dana Gibson 1867–1944 was an American graphic artist, noted for his creation of the “Gibson Girl,” the image of the beautiful and independent American woman at the turn of the 20th century. This poster shows a scene of New Yorkers waiting in line, all dressed in the fashion of the 1890’s. Articles in the Magazine are by Senator Lodge on the Revolution, Undergraduate Life at Vassar by Margaret Sherwood, Thomas Nelson Page’s Red Rock, Seaside Pleasures by Sylvester Baxter, Anton Seidl by H.E. Krehbiel, Richard Harding Davis, illustrated by Gibson, The Workers-The West by Mr. Wyckoff, illustrated by WR Leigh, and a group of war maps, presumably on the Spanish American War. The poster is archivally linen backed and ready for framing. We only have this one.
