The Saturday Evening Post is a American magazine, started in 1897 and still in existence. It was monumental in its use of American illustrators on the famous covers, and exposing these designers and art to the American public, from Norman Rockwell, to Stevan Dohanos, to JC Leyendecker to NC Wyeth and many more.
This poster is by well known artist John Falter (1910-1982) of Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He was best known for these covers, and also his World War II propaganda posters and commercial illustrative art.
The image is a wonderful American city building in early summer morning. One can see in the windows to a sleepy morning scene. One row of windows depicts 8 sleepy men playing poker and gambling with their cards and chips, still in the early morning light, and up all night. The building and scene looks like any American city in the 1940's. Each gambler has a straw hat laying on couch nearby. They are smoking cigars and cigarettes, cigarette, tobacco. This scene is named "Office Poker Party" by the Saturday Evenig Post.
An inset square reveals the content of the magazine, "The G.I.'s Reject Education" by Stanley Frank, and "A New Alexander Botts Story" by William Hazlett Upson.
