1942 Original JNF Poster
A very rare and beautiful small silkscreen WPA (Works Progress Administration, New Deal) era poster for the New York City Jewish Tree Fund. It has a wonderful naive folk art type industrial farm scene with a Jewish, Judaica, Hebrew theme. It has a prominent center art deco Farm Scene with rows of trees, fencing, 3 farmhouses, and a Water Tower.
Printed text on poster reads:
Tree Fund for the Reforestation of Eretz Israel (also in Hebrew)
Handwritten in center in old black fountain pen ink is:
"A tree has been planted in honor of Mrs. A.B. Cohen, Senior Advisor, by Scranton Junior Hadassah, May 1942."
Note: Mrs AB Cohen, known as Dolly Lurie Cohen, was a philanthropist and member of the Ohio Governer's Committee. She was from Cincinatti, and worked tirelessly on hire the handicapped programs and many many causes. Her husband was Abraham B. Cohen, 1950's successful salesman / businessman. She died in 1970.
A beautiful original and rare old forties NYC piece, in beautiful condition, ready for framing. The reverse is blank. It has been in our collection since the 1990's, and is now offered for sale for the first time, in November 2019.
