The dam and Lake Mead are located in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River about 35 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. Boulder Dam (renamed Hoover Dam after President Hoover), is one of the engineering marvels of the world built by FDR Franklin Roosevelt in the depression era, new deal era and WPA era.
