This is an original WW2, WWII era Boy Scout Hobby Show poster for an event at the Mansfield Town Hall in Mansfield, Connecticut. Admission to the event was 10 cents for kids and 25 cent for adults.
The poster depicts a boy scout painting by Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) famous artist, graphic designer and American illustrator. He is known for his work with the Saturday Evening Post, illustrations, Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Company, and Sun-Maid Raisins. Rockwell also has a history with the Boy Scouts of America.
During his 64 year relationship with the Boy Scouts, Rockwell created 50 Brown & Bigelow Scouting calendar covers, over 200 illustrations, and 11 covers for Boys’ Life magazine. For three years 1913-1916 Rockwell was employed by the Boy Scouts as an art director for Boys’ Life. Here we see his painting used in a poster design in the later years. His long successful career makes this poster interesting and special. We have never seen it before, a rare and uncommon American Rockwell piece. The poster is archivally linen backed and ready for framing. We only have this one.
