1949 Book Lovers Literary Antique Map Vintage Poster

This is a wonderful horizontal pictorial booklover map of America, with all the literary giants and famous places in the USA with literary references from the classics. It’s charming, linen mounted in A condition, and a wonderful gift for someone who loves to read. Decorative maps are becoming more and more collectible. We only have this one, uncommon.
The top border has illustrative vignettes of all the great classic authors: Mark Twain, Washington Irving, James Fenimore Cooper, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Longfellow, Hawthorne, Poe, Melville, and Whitman. It is signed “Designed and illustrated by Amy Jones” and was printed “Copyright 1949 by R.R. Bowker Co., 62 West 45th St., New York 19.”
This map of the US has literary references for each state, such as Mississippi’s William Faulkner, Randolph Caldecott in Florida, O. Henry in North Carolina, Richard Wright in Tennessee, Huck Finn’s home in Missouri, Francis Parkman in Michigan, Grapes of Wrath in California, on and on.
The poster has soft hues of muted tones on a heavy paper linen stock. The artwork is that wonderful WPA era naive folky look, reminiscent of the WWII, FDR era. The poster has larger insets for Chicago, Boston and New York city area with Clifford Odet, James Thurber, and Ichabod Crane. This is a wonderful piece for a book buff or children’s room. The poster is archivally linen backed and ready for framing. We only have this one.
