In 1883 it moved to Chelsea and was so large in the town it became known as "Forbes Station." The company expanded and grew at a great level, employing over 1000 people in 1930. In business for over one hundred years, it was a foremost litho business, and with the best printing technology of the time. The factory complex and company was also a bright spot in the community, with many organizatons, employee functions, sports teams and activity in its day. In 1957, Forbes had offices in NY, Cleveland, Chicago, Philadelphia and Michigan. The company produced a wide variety of antique printed paper. It went out of business in the late sixties.
This is an amazing 1905 lithograph showing the high level of litho print quality of the Forbes company. it's called "Grace" and depicts a young woman in stunning color, produced on a linen paper. We would call this a "parlor print" and it may have been an advertising premium for a product. The printing is stunning and so is the artwork, take a look at the photos and get to know Grace, she's beautiful and a perfect woman of the times. The poster is archivally linen backed and ready for framing. We only have this one, and have never seen it before.
Text on poster bottom reads: "Copyright 1905 by the Forbes Lithograph Manufacturing Company", "Grace", with Forbes advertising logo.
