Otto Gray and his Oklahoma Cowboys, of Ripley, Oklahoma, were the first nationally famous American cowboy band. They were also the first cowboy band to appear on the cover of Billboard in 1931. This is a wonderful 3 piece set, the poster, a songbook and an original real photo postcard of the band, all found together in New Hampshire years ago. It has been in our private collection until now.
The poster has a cartoon quality, playful, fun, very twenties in nature. It depicts a fiddler or fiddle player, a string bass player, a banjo player, a female cowgirl, and another in a ten gallon hat playing an instrument on the ground. The theme is a large phonograph horn, radio combo with large dials, very art deco and well, very cool!
Poster text reads: Scenic Theatre, Keene, New Hampshire, Wednesday and Thursday, March 25 and 26 in Person: Otto Gray and his Oklahoma Cowboys Direct from Radioland, Famous Radio Artists in person, Singin' Playing' Ropin' Dancin'. There are many old famous radio station call letters around the border: WLW, KMOX, KVOO, WTAM, WDAF, WDAF, WBAP, WFAA, WOS, WHAS, WLS, WHB, WRK, WLAK, WSCO, WEAR, KWWG, KFRU, WLBC, WOWO, WSMK, KFLF, WSBT, WRPI, WJAD, WFBM, WKY and WLS.
Note, the old postcard is addressed to Mr. & Mrs. AJ Schumeihorn in Ontario, NY, and sent from Syracuse NY on 1930 with a green one cent stamp.
The poster colors are deep purple, red yellow and white and black. Classic Antique American advertising, and fun! Ready for framing. We only have this one.
