This wonderful horizontal thirties cartoon style decorative antique poster is chocked full of all different cartoon scenes and humorous WPA era folksy Americana sayings and drawings. It includes some of Paul Bunyan`s friends, Sourdough Sam, Shot Gunderson, Johnny Inkslinger, Big Ole, Chris Crosshaul etc and a great thirties deco type WPA era view of America, with typography and icons of the time. The United States map depicts some of Bunyan`s deeds and Exploits.

The title of the map is "Paul Bunyan, America`s only Folk Lore Character, Paul Bunyan`s Pictorial Map of the United States, depicting some of his deeds and exploits by R.R. Handy". Note:In 1937, R.D. handy published a book entitled "Paul Bunyan and his Big Blue Ox : stories and pictures of the lumberjack hero of American folk lore " by R. D. Handy. Published in Chicago by Rand McNally & Company, 1937, has 64 pages , illustrated. The Text pages alternate with line drawn panels, of which many with word balloons. -- Art is signed "R.D. Handy" or "R.D.H.". This poster is fun, crazy, would be great in a kids room or folk art Americana setting. It has alot of the same look of Jo Mora type illustrative work. Collect American illustrators? This is a great vintage piece. We only have this one.
