This is a wonderful horizontal pictorial decorative historical Rand McNally map called the "Romance of the Hudson Valley." It has all the important historical areas along the Hudson River depicted. It’s charming, linen mounted in A condition, and a wonderful gift for someone who loves the beautiful Hudson River Valley from Manhattan, Long Island Sound, New York City all the way up to Glens Falls NY.
The borders have text boxes of great info such as the birthplaces of four presidents, Kingston Old Dutch Church, Albany plan, Indians, Dutch, Albany history, and etc.
It is signed “Copyright 1937, Margerite Hess Parrish, compiler. Rand McNally & Co., Chicago, Publishers, Josephine Wilhelm Wickster, consultant.”
This map of the US has illustrations such as Tarrytown Major Andre captured here, Anne Hutchinson felling religious persecution, Fort Clinton Chain broken 1777, Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Vassar College, FDR Hyde Park info, Dewitt Clinton opening the Erie Canal in 1825, Hudson New York Whaling industry, Troy Emma Willard College 1821, RPI, Saratgoa Spa, Albany, Robert Fulton's Clermont 1807, and on and on.
The poster has soft hues of muted tones on a heavy paper stock. The artwork is that wonderful WPA era naive folky look, reminiscent of the WWII, FDR era. TThis is a wonderful piece for a history buff. The poster is archivally linen backed and ready for framing. Decorative maps are becoming more and more collectible. We only have this one, uncommon.
