The Saturday Evening Post is a American magazine, started in 1897 and still in existence. It was monumental in its use of American illustrators on the famous covers, and exposing these designers and art to the American public, from Norman Rockwell, to Stevan Dohanos, to JC Leyendecker to NC Wyeth and many more.
Wiki: This poster is by well known artist Fred Ludekens (1900–1982) of Hueneme, California. He began as a billboard painter, joined the advertising agency of Lord & Thomas in 1931, and transferred to the company's New York City office in 1939. He returned to San Francisco in 1945, and remained there until his death. Ludekens worked in a variety of media, often depicting rural scenes such as fruit ranches, coastal scenes, and the Indians of the Southwest. He produced story, article and cover illustrations for magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, The American Magazine, Good Housekeeping, The Country Gentleman, Fortune and True. He also illustrated many books over the course of his life, and was a member of the founding faculty for the Famous Artists School.
The image is of a bucking bronco steer or bull at a rodeo. Men look on, in deep and lush rich colors, a stunning piece. The image is entitled "Bull Riding" by Ludekens for the Saturday Evening Post.
An inset square reveals the content of the magazine, "The Truth About Wages in Russia" by Peter F. Drucker and "A Doctor Looks at State Medicine" by Doctor Mary B. Spahr.
We only have this one, although we are excited to present other Saturday Evening Post Posters as well. Freshly linen backed, beautiful and ready for framing. Amazing art.
