The ships named the S.S. Independent and the S.S. Constitution were built around 1949 by the American Export Lines for the US ocean liner trade. They were designed to accommodate 1,000 passengers. These luxury ships were the first fully air-conditioned big liners ever to be built. Each had four 1,100-kilowatt generators capable of supplying power to a city of 20,000 inhabitants. The interiors were entrusted to Henry Dreyfus, a very prominent American designer.
The ship depicted in the poster is of the Independence but both names are printed here. This horizontal poster shows the NYC Statue of Liberty in the distance and is a good example of America at her finest. Beautiful and ready for framing. We only have this one.
