Original American travel posters are hard to come by and this is a large and stunning 1950's decorative poster map of the state of Maine. It is an original lithograph, printed by the Simonds Payson Company of Portland, a well known old advertising firm of the mid 20th century.

This bright and clean poster map has beautiful artwork around the borders of Maine pheasants, trout, lobster and moose, a sportsmen's (and womens!) paradise There are many wonderful vignettes of Maine attactions such as Kittery Portsmouth Navyyard, Bates College of Lewiston, White Mountain National Forest, Colby College, Skiing, apples, fly fishing, logging, a large compass, farming, seagulls, Native Americans, Arnold Trail, Augusta State House, Knox Mansion in Thomaston, Fort Edgecomb, Bowdoin College, Fort William Henry, Acadia National Park, Burnham Tavern, University of Maine at Bangor, Appalachian Trail, Ripogenus Dam, Mt. Katahdin, Fort Kent in the north and more...
President Dwight Eisenhower went fly fishing in Maine during his presidency. There is a large trout with a card that reads "Mr. President" near Bangor, see photo. This dates the poster to the fifties.
A great and rare piece we have had in our collection for years. The poster has been recently archivally linen backed and ready for framing. We only have this one. We have never seen another.
